Steam Next Fest is in full swing, and enthusiasts have encountered numerous interesting indie games. But, one catches the eye for its unconventional concept. Named Unko Technica, this old-school styled jumping adventure lets you play a hero that is literally a piece of poop trying to make its way to a commode. As a fun fact, "Unko" is Japanese for "poop."
The gameplay is simple: press a one button to leap. Throughout one hundred fifty challenges, battle tough enemies and access a store to buy outfits for your poop character.
Time your jumps precisely, as a error requires starting over. Jump using air pockets to hurl the poop upward, navigate fragile ledges, and touch buttons to reveal hidden paths. Earn UN-KOINS for buying challenging game content where gameplay ramps up.
In terms of design, the demo shows off neon stages and a killer soundtrack. The retro visual style of shifting basic polygons could recall players of old favorites like Earthbound.
Even though difficult to name similar titles where you control a dung character, gaming often incorporated toilet humor. For example, in Death Stranding, players create explosives from protagonist waste. Examples include Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved employ manure as soil enrichment. Unsurprisingly, fecal references appears heavily in Obsidian's adventure The Stick of Truth.
Regardless of its silly idea, Unko Technica has already garnered impressive awards, including winning at Bandai Namco's indie contest in 2023. A playable preview is accessible currently on Steam, with the final release planned to debut on computers on November 19.
