Jennifer Lawrence Says Mentioning Trump Would ‘Intensify Divisions’ That’s Ripping the Country Apart

Lawrence has expressed that she no longer feels appropriate to comment publicly countering the Trump presidency, fearing it could worsen divisive discussions and deepen rifts throughout the nation.

‘I Question the Usefulness’, Says the Actress

Speaking with media, she reflected, “During the first Trump administration, I believed I was moving hastily without clear direction. But as we’ve learned, election after election, public figures do not make a difference in any way on who people vote for.”

She continued, “What’s the point? I’m just expressing personal views on an issue that’s going to add fuel to a fire tearing the nation apart.”

Shifting Views

The actress has previously been open about voting for both right and leftwing candidates in past elections. Brought up by Republican parents in Kentucky, she supported the Republican nominee in the 2008 election prior to switching to the left-leaning politics and explaining she realized during President Obama’s term that backing conservatives was voting against her individual liberties as a woman.

Previous Comments

In 2015, she commented that Trump winning the presidency would be “a catastrophic event” and publicly supported the Democratic candidate in the 2020 election. More recently, she lent her support to Kamala Harris, “as I think she’s a strong contender and I know that she will make every effort to protect women’s health rights.”

Celebrity Views

Lawrence was joined by many in the entertainment industry in her disapproval of Trump as a presidential contender, but the minimal impact stars have over the voting intentions was emphasized by his election win.

“Another four years feels different,” commented the actress about his leadership. “Since he made his plans clear. We were aware of his actions for four years. He was very clear. And that’s what we chose.”

Current Projects

Jennifer Lawrence is discussing her new film, Lynne Ramsay’s movie in which she portrays a recent parent who faces challenges with her emotional state in rural Montana. Speaking at a press conference for the movie in the film festival, the star addressed the situation in the Middle East: “It’s frightening. It’s mortifying. What’s taking place is no less than a humanitarian crisis and it’s awful.”

Wider Issues

She continued by expressing that she was saddened by “the disrespect in the discourse of American politics currently and how that is going to be normalised to the younger generation right now. It’s going to be typical to them that elected officials deceive.”

She attempted to refocus frustration about the conflict to leaders rather than entertainers. “Concentrate on the people in charge,” she advised, seen by observers as a allusion to the declaration endorsed by more than 4,000 arts community members to refuse engagement with specific industry bodies.

Relatable Experiences

Lawrence, who earned critical acclaim aged 22 for her performance in her breakout movie, is generating Oscar buzz for her work in the new film. Although the director has disputed the story being interpreted as one of post-birth struggles and psychosis, the actress said that she connected with elements of her role’s experience after the birth of her new baby, not long after filming concluded.

“It was fear for my son,” she said, “envisioning every potential danger, and then doubting everything that I was doing. I was seeing a therapist, but I got on a treatment called the prescription and I used it for two weeks and it was effective.”

Film Challenges

Lawrence also mentioned about the freeing requirement of shooting revealing sequences in the film while she was in pregnancy and unable to exercise.

“There’s a freedom,” she remarked, regarding the need to cast off vanity. “Truly, I do have moments where I’m like, How exactly do I differ between my work and that profession? But it doesn’t keep me up at night.”
