During a defensive struggle on Sunday, the Broncos clinched a close victory over the struggling New York Jets. Quarterback Bo Nix connected on a first-quarter scoring strike and kicker Wil Lutz kicked the late decisive three-pointer to secure the hard-fought win.
Even with registering nine sacks against Jets quarterback Justin Fields, the Broncos found themselves trailing 11-10 following giving up a safety in the second half. Interestingly, the Jets could only produce just 82 offensive yards throughout the contest.
The Denver quarterback, who completed 19 of 30 attempts for 174 yards, led a decisive 12-play, 65-yard drive that ended with Lutz's 27-yard field goal with approximately five minutes remaining.
Despite their horrendous offensive display, the Jets still had the ball with a chance to score a possible winning score. But Fields was tackled on fourth-and-eight from the Denver 44 after coach Aaron Glenn chose to go for it rather than sending out specialist Nick Folk for a long field-goal attempt.
The Jets quarterback struggled throughout, completing just 9 of 17 attempts for 45 yards. New York ended up with minus-10 net yards passing, the lowest in any game since 1998.
"Our passing game was non-existent," the coach commented following the contest.
The running back surpassed 200 yards from scrimmage for the second straight week and first-year Ryan Fitzgerald kicked a 33-yard kick as time expired to secure the Carolina Panthers a narrow victory over the Dallas Cowboys.
The Los Angeles Rams finished the first half with a goal-line stand and then signal-caller Matthew Stafford guided them to a pair of touchdowns to start the second half in their 17-3 win over the Baltimore Ravens.
Daniel Jones threw two touchdown passes and Jonathan Taylor ran the go-ahead score with 4:32 left, giving the Indianapolis Colts a 31-27 victory over the Arizona Cardinals.
The quarterback threw touchdown passes to Jaxon Smith-Njigba and another target, and Seattle dominated both lines of scrimmage on their way to a comfortable victory.
The veteran quarterback threw for 235 yards and two scores, and the Pittsburgh Steelers experienced minimal difficulty in their 23-9 win over the Cleveland Browns.
Justin Herbert escaped the pass rush and found with Ladd McConkey for a long catch-and-run in the final minute, setting up Cameron Dicker's game-winning field goal to secure the Los Angeles Chargers a 29-27 victory.
Drake Maye threw for 261 yards and three touchdowns as the road New England Patriots beat the New Orleans Saints 25-19.
